The gorse is here because it's such a great plant for wildlife, and the flowers are used to make wine and flavour liqueurs. 

Extreme wildlife gardening perhaps and certainly on the spiny side but gorse provides cover for so many bugs and birds you must squeeze some in if you can.

The perfumed flowers are around for most of the year giving colour and food for bees, and have been used in the past for many things.

A nitrogen fixer that enjoys poor dry soils but will grow pretty much anywhere.
