Mountain sorrel is a decorative member of the sorrel family

Do not be deceived, mountain sorrel is by no means as delicate as it may at first appear, as it is extremely hardy and grows most of the year round. No need to worry about soil or site, and although only a short lived perennial, once planted you are not likely to be without one as they self -seed prolifically, popping up where you least expect and can if you want form an effective groundcover even in shady awkward spots.

Like all its family it contains oxalic acid, which gives it that pleasing acid twang that is such a pleasant addition to a salad, but must only be used in small quantities (moderation!).
