If you can find room for a hazel in your garden there will lots of happy birds, bugs and beasts. 

Hazels can get up to 6 m in time but is usually smaller, choosing as it does to grow under trees and inhabiting the edges of woodland. It has many uses, much coppiced in the past for firewood, making hurdles and baskets, and a is still a main component of many a hedgerow.
 
The nuts are good for people and many creatures, the nuthatches spend hours tapping away at them here.
