Small and compact, the burnet rose is a native of the sand dunes, mountain crags and heathlands.

The burnet rose would make a lovely addition to a rock garden as it never reaches more than about 30 cm in height.

With bristly stems and single creamy white flowers it's hardy and easy to grow, and the hips which are large, round and very dark purple can be used in the same way as other rose hips.
