A relative of the persimmon, the date plum usually crops well in this county and is smaller than its American cousin.

Easy to grow as not too fussy about soil, though with a preferance for a medium loam and will fruit better if grown in a sheltered sunny spot. Pretty too with glossy dark green leaves, greenish flowers produced in early summer and fruit which ripen slowly through the mid-late autumn.

The fruit of the date plum are about 1 - 2 cm in size, yellow to start with then ripening to a dark purple but do need to be fully ripe or they are too astringent to enjoy, and please note, these are single sexed plants and our stock are too young to be sexed!
