THE PLANTS
Trees Larger Shrubs Smaller Shrubs Perennials Tender
All the plants we sell have been propagated here in the nursery. They are mostly seedlings, which means they are quite small, this not only makes transporting them safer and cheaper, but should also allow them to establish much quicker in their permanent positions. Pot grown, so they are available all year round.
As they generally suffer from fewer bugs than their more cultivated cousins, they rarely require the use of sprays; the only regular pest control we use is the biological nematode for vine-weevil.
Our compost is organic and mostly made up of composted bark, topsoil, sand and pelleted chicken manure. This seems to be working well so far.
Given the conditions are right and they are initially kept moist and weed free they should look after themselves.
Pollination can sometimes be a problem, although most are self-fertile they will generally all fruit better if more than one of the same species are grown together with the exception of the strawberries who should pollinate each other.
A few of our plants are single sexed. This poses a rather obvious problem, especially where space is limited, having to grow at least one male to however many females required. When planting out in the nursery we’ve gambled on having a reasonable mix of males and females, and so far, it has paid off. Although currently unable to provide plants of known sex we hope to in the near future.
We currently have quite a few species of plants listed as sold out but it is hoped that all of these will be available again later in the year.
