An easily grown native if you have a shady spot is the ramson, or wild garlic if you prefer.
Ramsons
are at home in a woodland, they love the shade where they grow naturally, often in large drifts.
Given time and left alone, they will self-seed to cover a large area where they will provide lots of large green leaves, with a mild garlic flavour, from early spring with lovely white flowers in May. They will then disappear until early next spring so make the most of them while they are there.
